Base Expedition
After completing the initial eight Special Operations we can begin the Base Expedition. These are used to expand the base to make room for many new buildings. There are also many items and game functions unlocking during the Base Expedition; I would like to shed some light on in this guide.
What are Base Expeditions?
The Base Expeditions are a collection of missions that will expand our base. In the video you can see the four expansion stages of the base. The initial expansion level corresponds to what you saw in the Special Operations.
Here you can find the sizes of the bases for each of the expansion stages:
- Start: 18 * 18 tiles = 324 tiles
- Stage 1: 30 * 24 tiles = 720 tiles
- Stage 2: 42 * 30 tiles = 1260 tiles
- Stage 3: 48 * 30 tiles = 1440 tiles
- Stage 4: 48 * 36 tiles = 1728 tiles
Note: The headquarter building is not movable and occupies 16 tiles. The roads are also not usable and occupy 56 tiles. The crossing of the two roads (4 tiles) is usable but it looks really bad, so lets discount those as well. This means that out of the numbers mentioned above, 76 tiles have to be deducted for not being usable.
Expansion Level 1
Now we start with the first round of base expeditions around our base. We collect wire cutters to free Monica . There are a few things that we receive or unlock along the way. For example, our troop truck. We receive a free heroine, Sarah
, as well as the paid heroine Kimberly
. We also unlock certain buildings. The tavern
, the Apex Arena
and the drone center
. You will notice every now and then that you need a short break between the individual expeditions to develop your heroes and expand buildings. By the end of expansion level 1 you should already be level 8.
Starting at the southern tip of our base, we will move around our base counter-clockwise, mission by mission, until we reach the western tip. In the following sections, I will show you the highlights of the base expeditions in short video sections. Whenever a topic is described in another guide, you will find a link with more details in the corresponding section. So let's get going.
Level 1 - Building the formation
In the game we can build up to four formations and use them again and again. Level 1 of the base expedition requires us to build our first formation. Formations consist of up to 5 heroes. There is much more information about this in the guide to formations. For now, it is best to follow the video and arrange the heroes in your formation as you see it there - you can always adjust the formation later.
Level 2 - Obtaining the Troop Truck
This is a pickup mission, which means there is nothing to fight for, but there is still a reward. The troop truck, which will be parked in front of your base from now on will collect resources while you are away. Don't forget to collect them regularly, as the collection stops after a certain time because the truck is full. You can increase the "loading capacity" of the truck later so that you don't have to pick up resources so often.
The truck is also used to find the next base expedition and later in the game to start further expeditions.
Level 4 - Wire Cutter 1
The title says it all. Click, pick up the wire cutter, done.
There is a short advertisement immediately after this, namely for a heroine called Kimberly, who can be bought directly. Even if I am against recommending investments, I can do so here with a clear conscience; Kimberly is a heroine who will benefit you for a very long time. If you have already read the above guide on formations, you might remember the name Kimberly and some details.
Level 6 - First expansion tavern
After completing level 6, we receive the first expansion of our base. This will also show us the ruins of the tavern, which need to be repaired. The tavern will be very important for us later, as we can recruit new heroes and survivors there.
Levels 10, 14, 18 and 22 - Wire Cutter
In levels 10, 14, 18 and 22 you will receive the remaining wire cutters to free Monica from her bomb.
Level 22 - Monica and Sarah
Upon completion of mission 22, you will receive a new heroine named Sarah . Furthermore, you now have all the wire cutters to free Monica
. Don't forget to add the new heroes to your formation.
Level 24 - Mobile Secret Troop
Congratulations, you now have a Mobile Secret Squad. This means you can not only carry out secret missions, but also dig for hidden treasures. Good luck.
Level 29 - Apex Arena
The Apex Arena is available to the top 200 players on each server. It is used to compare combat strength with each other without any loss and offers various events depending on the progress of the server. There is a 1v1 and a 3v3 competition. Just click on the new building and have a look around.
Level 38 - Tactical Drone
With the tactical drone you now have a very important and complex weapon to put you in a better position in battle than your opponents. Be sure to check out the guide to the tactical drone. When you receive the drone, you can immediately increase the level of your drone. From the next mission onwards, you will see the drone in your battles. The good news: The drone is autonomous, you don't need to do anything special to get the drone to fight for you.
Level 44 - Mason Hero Shards
When you complete level 44, you will receive hero shards for your hero Mason
for the first time. Remember to use them before you start the next mission. You can find more details about upgrading heroes in the Heroes Guide.
Level 45 - Train Station
When you complete level 45, you get access to the train station to the west of your base. If you are playing on a very new server, it may not be fully operational yet and you may have to wait a few days. The train station will be available from day 4 of a servers start. If the train station is already operational, you can find information about the trains here.
With this level, you have completed the first round of expansions. If you haven't reached level 8 yet, you must do so now, as this is a prerequisite for the next level.
Expansion Level 2
When expansion stage 1 is complete, we turn around and work our way a little further away from the base on a similar route back to the southern tip.
Not much happens on this way back. You will expand your base, add more and more areas, collect lots of hero shards for Mason along the way and make a small discovery at level 80.
Level 80 - Finding the 2nd research center
This is the most spectacular discovery on the way back to the southern tip of our base. The ruins of a second research center. Unfortunately, we can't do anything with it without a small investment, as the research center is hidden behind a paywall.
Again, I don't want to tempt you to buy it, but just point out that with just one research center you can only do one research at a time. The higher your level, the more you will want and need to research. Starting with research for the alliance duel, but especially from around level 27 for unlocking T10 troops, research is absolutely necessary and a second research center speeds this up drastically.
Expansion Level 3

Your base's expansion level 3 will take some time to arrive. At the beginning of week 6 of season 1, you will find Monica to appear at the southern corner of your base, ready to start the expeditions. With this you go through the base expeditions to clear from the southern corner of your base to the eastern corner of your base.
Expansion Level 4
Expansion Level 4 will take even longer for you to wait. This is scheduled for day 57 of season 2, which is the end of season and start of season celebration. This expansion will allow you to gain additional space from the eastern corner to the northern corner of your base.
I wish you a lot of patience until then
