Troops

Arguably, the biggest influence on your combat power is not your heroes, but your troops. Therefore, it is important to understand how they work. In this chapter, I want to elaborate on that a bit.

What are troops?

Troops are the common foot soldiers of your army – your heroes mostly only bring special abilities with them. It’s the troops that bring the combat strength. Accordingly, you need your troops for everything you do in the game, even if it’s just gathering.

Where do I get troops?

There are various ways to get troops, but the most important one is training in the barracks. Depending on the level of the barracks, different tiers of troops can be trained, or existing weaker troops can be promoted to stronger troops. The training capability is determined by the barracks level according to the following table:

Barracks Troops
Level 1 to Level 2 Tier 1
Level 3 to Level 5 Tier 2
Level 6 to Level 9 Tier 3
Level 10 to Level 13 Tier 4
Level 14 to Level 16 Tier 5
Level 17 to Level 19 Tier 6
Level 20 to Level 23 Tier 7
Level 24 to Level 26 Tier 8
Level 27 to Level 30 Tier 9
Level 30 + Special Forces Tier 10

If you have the corresponding barracks, you can train all troop types up to the corresponding tier, or promote troops from lower tiers to the maximum tier of the barracks. Select the appropriate tier and click either Promote or Train, depending on what you want to do.

Another way to get troops is through the Special Operations of the Falcon Command and Frontline Breakthrough. Whenever you successfully complete a level there, you are provided with the number of survivors as troops at the end (limited to 60 in the Frontline Breakthrough). These have the maximum tier level according to your headquarters.

Training vs. Promotion

To train soldiers, simply click on the barracks, select the tier to be trained, and click the blue train button (left graphic). To promote soldiers (right graphic), you obviously need troops of a lower tier available. This is indicated by the green arrow pointing upwards. By selecting this tier and then clicking the green button with the white arrow, these troops will be promoted instead of training new ones.

If you don't have available space for the new troops on your training grounds, the trained troops will remain in the barracks until you've created the necessary space.

Where can I see my troops?

Your troops can be stationed in various places. The majority will be on the training grounds within your base. Click on one of the training grounds to see how many troops of which type are inside the base. The display is divided into a section "In the base", meaning on your training grounds, and a section "outside". These are the troops that are traveling with your heroes.

Each hero can carry a certain number of troops and use them in battle. This happens automatically. If no troops are available, the hero cannot engage in combat. The number of troops fighting with the heroes depends on the troop capacity of your heroes. This is increased by research, etc., and your heroes become stronger with their troops. This is also visible in the combat power of the troop.

Additional troops can be found in the hospital waiting to be healed. Go to the hospital to see if you need to heal troops. From Season 1 onwards, there will be another hospital, the so-called Emergency Center. Depending on the level of the building, many troops can also be housed here.

How do I lose troops?

There are many ways to lose troops, and I often see people say, "I need to burn troops." Understanding how to lose soldiers can help.

Troop losses in combat

You don't lose troops while picking flowers, but in all combat actions. If the opponent is stronger, troops will be wounded or killed. The hospital is crucial in this case, as wounded soldiers are healed there. However, if the hospital is full, the troops are not wounded but killed. It is important to have a large number of available hospital spaces; otherwise, troops will die and have to be retrained instead of being healed.

Troop losses in defense

When your base is attacked by enemies, there are two ways to lose troops. Firstly, troop losses occur in defense by the heroes. When you click on the wall, you can see your up to four troops. The green checkmark next to each troop "Participate in defense" sets whether your heroes (with their troops) participate in the defense or not. If they participate (this is also referred to as "on the wall"), and you cannot defeat the attacker, parts of the troops belonging to your heroes will die. If they do not participate in the defense, only the troops on the training grounds will die.

Troops in Alliance Duel and Arms Race

Both in the Arms Race and in the Alliance Duel on Fridays, the focus is on the training and promotion of troops. Use the corresponding opportunities to train and promote your troops accordingly. Pay special attention to applying the recommended strategy for the Troop Upgrade to maximize points for the duel and the arms race.

Good luck with your troops
